The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your partner and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard biological terror, but within Together exists a profound examination about our choices in loving our partners.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. Married in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their roles, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when the couple transition from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the two discover an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but never too gross) body horror, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that come with long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the allegory avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights work together symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could act as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu as of this moment.
